Since 1840 the beautiful town of Cobh was the traditional departure
point for transatlantic passengers. Between 1848 and 1950 over
2.5 million adults and children departed from Cobh, making it
the single most important port of emigration, Today most cruise

Ballymaloe Cookery School Gardens
Ballymaloe is a large country house on a 400 acre farm 20 miles
east of Cork City, Ireland. Ballymaloe has a two acre walled
vegetable and herb garden running alongside the tower house
on the opposite side of the car park to the main entrance. Guests
are welcome to stroll around it. It is here that most of the
restaurants herbs and vegetables are grown, as well as some
fruit including apples, berries and grapes.

Charles Fort
Charles Fort Located at Summer Cobh, Kinsale. It was constructed
in the late 17th century and is a classic example of a star-shaped
fort with five bastions. Besieged in 1690 by the Duke of Marlborough
and destroyed in 1922 during the Irish Civil War, Charles Fort
reflects the turbulence of Ireland's past. It was declared a
national monument in 1973. Facilities include an exhibition
center, restaurant and toilets.
Cobh Heritage Center
From 1848 - 1950 over 6 million adults and children emigrated
from Ireland - over 2.5 million departed from Cobh, making it
the single most important port of emigration. Cobh heritage
center offers a unique genealogy search service, designed for
people interested in tracing their ancestors, but have no knowledge
of genealogical records. The center contains a restaurant, Bureau
de Change and disabled facilities.
Cork City Gaol
Located
2km from Cork's main thoroughfare, this castle like prison
once housed 19th C. prisoners, often in wretched conditions.
Wandering through the wings of Cork City Gaol, the atmosphere
suggests you are accompanied by the shuffling feet of inmates,
each representing their particular period in Irish history
from pre-famine times to the foundation of the State.
Cycling in West Cork
The road winds along the River Lee and the West Cork Coast,
where the smell of the sea battles with the scent from bracken

English Market, Cork City
The English market, located in Cork city, has entrances on Princes
Street, Patrick Street and Grand Parade. It is a covered fish,
fruit, meat and vegetable market. The market can be traced back
to 1610, with the present building dating back to 1786.

Gougane Barra
The
Gougane Barra valley was shaped and deepened during the Pleistocene
Glaciation in the period 200,000 to 10,000 years ago by a glacier
which flowed from the corrie of Com Rua, at the head of the
valley. This glacier flowed eastwards into the Lee Valley where
is deposited extensive sheets of gravel in the Ballingeary
/ Inchigeela area. The lake lies in a basin carved out by the
ice, and although its dark waters and dramatic situation give
the impression of great depth it is in fact no deeper than
90 feet.
Kinsale
Kinsale was the site of a battle in 1601 that was a turning
point in Irish history. For over 300 years it was a garrison
town and a port of consequence, leaving a legacy of Georgian
and victorian architecture. The people of Kinsale take the preservation
of their environment very seriously, and the town is noted for
its successes in competitions such as tidy towns and the European
Entente Floral Competition.
Lake Mount
Located at Barnavara Hill, Glanmire, County Cork. Lake Mount
is a well-maintained garden overlooking Cork Harbour, with many
flourishing ericaceous. Retaining walls and raised beds built
from local stone provide a home for many rock plants. The skillful
balance of foliage, form and color makes Lake Mount of interest
in every season.
Midleton Distillery & Jameson Heritage Centre
Situated in Cork county, Midleton distillery is the Irish Distillers
Group main distillery. It produces the majority of whiskey distilled
in Ireland today. It is the Irish Distillers Group main distillery.
Alongside is the Jameson Heritage Centre where visitors can
see the largest Pot Still in the world with a capacity of 32,000
gallons and the Old Waterwheel manufactured in 1825 to provide
motive power prior to the days of electricity and still turning
today.
Muckross House
Muckross House is situated close to the shores of Muckross Lake,
amidst the beautiful scenery of Killarney National Park. The
house is a focal point within the park and is the ideal place
to explore its terrain. Muckross house was built in 1843 for
Henry Arthur Herbert, which the Herbert family occupied for
two hundred years.
Philip Gray Studio
The Philip Gray Studio, situated in Cobh, county Cork,is a gallery
dedicated to Philip Gray's exclusive limited edition works.
Over the years collectors of Philip Grays work have enjoyed
an exquisite collection of open-edition prints of Irish landscapes
and seascapes.
St. Finbarrs Cathedral
This is a spectacular form of early French gothic architecture
that was constructed between 1867 and 1879. This structure is
built proportionately to scale and features highly ornamented,
beautiful mosaic work and carvings. The present building replaces
two earlier churches and was completed in 1870.
Walking Tour of Cobh

Golf - Old Head of Kinsale
Old Head Golf Links is built on a 220-acre diamond of land,
jutting out over two miles into the Atlantic. The promontory
is almost an island with numerous caves running beneath your
feet as you play the course.
Comprising of five par 5's, five par 3's and eight par 4's, the links stretches
to over 7,200 yards from the tips and with a minimum of six tees on every hole,
the course provides a stern test to the touring pro and high handicapper alike.
